The Empire Partner Foundation (EPF) has opened nominations for the second annual Tech Awards.

The tech non-profit Foundation said it will recognise achievements in developing technological solutions that solve socioeconomic issues affecting local communities.

According to EPF, the purpose of this October event is to highlight technology's disruptive power and critical role it plays in establishing a “brighter future” for South Africa.

Last year, the youth-led foundation launched the first Tech Awards, stating that it aimed to support young people and individuals who are using technology to strengthen South Africa and Africa.

EPF stated that the 2024 event is more than just a celebration of technological power; it also recognises outstanding individuals in tech sector.

Furthermore, the Foundation stated that the goal of this year's event is to exhibit its support for technology-driven social development initiatives.

To be eligible, candidates must be South African citizens aged 18 to 35, have a registered business in South Africa, and have been in operation for one to three years.

The 2024 awards categories include start-up of the year, lifetime achievement, women in tech, AI and analytics, social impact, innovative institution, financial inclusion, and township tech leader.
