Another big technology company has launched an education venture in South Africa.

Chipmaker Intel on Thursday in Johannesburg announced the launch of its Intel Explore and Learn Marketplace that provides access to a repository of free and low-cost digital textbooks and interactive learning materials for students from Grade 0 to adults completing their MBAs.

Intel’s move to unveil the offering comes as Nokia in October launched ‘MoMaths’, a mobile service helping Grade 10 to 12 mathematics learners better understand the subject.

Meanwhile, Intel says its content for its learning offering matches the South African education curriculum.

The solution is also the result of a collaboration between Intel and Rancard, an African-based organisation that provides cloud-based software for mobile content discovery and delivery.

“As a company that’s been active in the education space for the last 40 years globally, we’ve seen how technology can drive clearly improved learning results and assist teachers by providing access to information and quality engaging content,” said Intel’s, Turkey Middle East and Africa business manager, Cigdem Ertem.

“We’re well aware of the challenges our education system faces. Through this solution, we’re aiming to empower the youth, learners and students of South Africa to improve their knowledge and build skills, and in the process, change their lives,” said Ertem

Students and educators can gain access to the Intel Explore and Learn Marketplace solution on Android or Windows devices with an internet connection.
