Don't fear AI expert urges Africa to adopt the tech

African businesses must view artificial intelligence (AI) as a valuable tool rather than a cause of anxiety.
This is the caution from Nithen Naidoo, CEO and Founder of Snode Technologies, who spoke about defensive, offensive, secure, and responsible AI, as well as an overview with case studies and lessons experienced at this year's ITWeb AI Summit 2025.
Naidoo explained his message to the attendees, saying: "I believe the aim is for delegates to understand that AI is something to be welcomed rather than feared. I believe it provides opportunity.
He went on to say, "Whether you're an entrepreneur, a business owner, or a private individual. I believe that humans have an inherent fear of the unknown.”
Looking ahead, ITWeb enquired about the influence AI will have on African enterprises.
Naidoo replied: "I think the biggest impact for AI in Africa is the opportunity it creates for inventors, entrepreneurs, and for the African thought leadership. I believe there is one message I might convey to African young, African businesses, and African academics: see this as an opportunity to push African innovation."
During an interview with ITWeb Africa, Naidoo emphasised that AI may provide entrepreneurs with competitive advantages, particularly in the context of African firms, which have the potential to innovate and grow globally with few resources.
The interview also emphasised the importance of educating stakeholders about AI threats, emphasising that this initial step is both cost-effective and impactful.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of including a proactive security approach into AI deployments from the start, focussing on understanding potential misuse instances in order to develop strong security regulations.
The interview also revealed action items such as the need for AI and quantum technology risk education, AI design assessment, the development of a security framework, and inspiring African youth to use AI for new potential.
