Liquid Intelligent Technologies Botswana has committed to provide a redundant internet route into the country to help avoid blackout.

Odirile Tamajobe, Managing Director of Liquid Intelligent Technologies Botswana said the company has deployed fibre from South Africa’s Pioneer Border to the capital Gaborone totaling 83kms, as an alternative to existing routes.

“This is vital for the country, as it provides options to you the clients and redundant routes to the country,” said Tamajobe.

He said the company is continuing with the metro build in the greater Gaborone region and will expand to other parts of the country.

Director of Policy Development at the Ministry of Transport and Communications Cecil Masika said: “The 83km fibre that we see needs to expand, conservation needs to happen in different forums with the regulator and ministry, as we seek to enable such investment to thrive.”

Liquid Intelligent Technologies is also helping Botswana leverage 4IR technologies.

“Liquid has been partnering with stakeholders in the local community as a connectivity provider so far, and now we have the opportunity to partner with them with our digital solutions in the Cloud that will be vital to ensure a digital adoption that bolsters the local economy,” said Tamajobe.

So far the company has trained over one hundred candidates in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) installation and related maintenance.

“This was done to enable the youth to be skilled, so that they can set up own companies to participate in the installation of the fibre to the homes,” said Tamajobe.
