Econet's Kwesé TV banks on 'pay-as-you-watch'

Global telecommunications group Econet has begun broadcasting on its newly-launched satellite network Kwesé TV.

Launched through Econet Media, Kwesé Network's Pay-TV satellite service is now available in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia which were picked for the initial phase of a rollout planned for several more African countries.

Viewers in these these three countries can now purchase Kwesé's satellite and decoder from retailers for access to the TV network.

Joseph Hundah, President and Group CEO at Econet Media says Kwese TV plans to gain market share by pricing its packages competitively and offering content tailored for African viewers.

"We are a dynamic, young company built to respond to the way audiences want to access and consume content, whether you subscribe for the full Kwese TV bouquet, watch amazing sports programming free-to-air or choose to watch TV on the move, we aim to be the first choice for viewers all over Africa by bringing them the best in programming, at an affordable price making it accessible to more people than ever before,"

Kwesé's key differentiator according to its owners will be its payment options which include a 'pay-as-you-watch' service that enables viewers to purchase three or seven day passes to its full programming bouquet.

The monthly subscription option, gives subscribers access to the full suite of Kwesé TV programming for US$25 per month excluding VAT.

Kwese also highlights its multi-platform, multi-screen broadcasting model as a unique offering for audiences on the continent. Its multi-platform offering covers free-to-air TV, mobile applications, web streaming and pay (linear) TV.

"The launch of Kwesé TV completes the story we started telling 18 months ago. We have spent the past few months building this diverse media company which will showcase the very best in international content and act as platform to showcase the best that our continent has to offer,"adds Hundah, a former SABC, Multichoice & MTG Africa executive.
