Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng has been appointed as Corporate Affairs and Stakeholder Relations Group Executive for MultiChoice Africa with effect from January 2023.

Dr Modimoeng is the former executive chairperson of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and has previously held a corporate communications role at Anglo American (Kumba Iron Ore) and served as corporate citizenship manager for Samsung Electronics (Africa).

Fhulu Badugela, MultiChoice Africa Holdings CEO, said, “Kea is a seasoned leader with over 15 years’ experience in corporate communications, stakeholder relations, government, and regulatory affairs. He will play a key role in helping us to navigate the challenging and complex communication, stakeholder, and regulatory landscape across 49 countries outside South Africa. We are truly excited to have him on board and wish him great success.”

Dr Modimoeng holds an MBA- best dissertation award from Regent Business School and a PhD in Management Sciences from Durban University of Technology.

He also completed a Senior Executive Fellows programme at the Harvard Kennedy School as well as an Executive Development Programme from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr Modimoeng will report to Collen Dlamini (Group Executive Corporate Affairs), and he will be a member of the MultiChoice Africa Executive Team.

Earthshot competition

In January MultiChoice Africa extended an official invitation to climate change activists and innovators across the continent to submit nominations towards the £1-million Earthshot prize.

The Earthshot Prize was first launched in 2021 and organised to discover, accelerate, and scale solutions to repair and regenerate the planet.

According to a statement released by MultiChoice, as the official African broadcast partner and member of The Earthshot Prize Global Alliance, it is issuing a call for entries from African organisations, businesses, governments, and individuals who are doing scalable and impactful work in this capacity.

“Potential nominees can enter into any of the five categories of the Earthshot Prize, including: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix our Climate. The Prize is awarded annually to five winners, each receiving a R 20 million (£1 million) prize grant to scale their projects,” the company added.

MultiChoice has established an official entry portal and all submissions must be entered by 27 January 2023.

In 2021 three African organisations were selected as finalists namely, Sanergy (from Kenya), Reeddi Capsules (from Nigeria) and Pole Pole Foundation (from the Democratic Republic of Congo).
