GoMetro ready for inclusion on Firefox OS phones
South Africa's Metrorail mobile application GoMetro will be ready for integration with Firefox operating system enabled smartphones, says an official.
GoMetro is the mobile app and website which provides commuters with information on real-time train schedules, train fares, timetable deviations, and platform changes.
Justin Coetzee, the founder of GoMetro, confirmed via social network Twitter that the app would be available.
"... @GoMetroApp is already available on Firefox OS ready for when the phones come to SA," he tweeted.
Earlier this month Mozilla announced that the Firefox OS would expand to Africa.
It was reported that Firefox OS has gained support from three partners on the continent namely Airtel, MTN South Africa and Tigo, operated by Millicom.
The three mobile operators will be the first carriers working with Mozilla to bring the first Firefox OS smartphones to Africa.
Firefox OS has already launched with local partners in 25 markets across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
Mozilla launched its Firefox OS to compete with the likes of Apple's iOS and Google's Android, which together power the majority of mobile devices.
