GetBucks opens its doors in Botswana

Mauritian financial technology company GetBucks, focused on pushing financial inclusion through technology, has been launched in Botswana.

Utilising virtual platforms such USSD, mobile, web, live chat and call centres, the financial institution is expected to deliver a range of financial products to the unbanked.

Martin de Kock, managing director of GetBucks Botswana, said the company's ultimate goal is to become a household name in the financial industry in Botswana by making use of technology in servicing clients in a fast, easy and convenient way.

"We will do this without losing sight of our passion which is people," said De Kock, adding that the company will provide high-quality service to ensure that doing business with ease.

De Kock applauded government for investing in the IT sector and putting in place solid infrastructure such Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy) and West Africa Cable System (WACS).

Getbucks provides term credit products, funeral and legal protector products to Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and, via Botswana Government Workers Union (BOGOWU), provides financial services including long-and short-term credit, and a variety of Insurance products to all government employees in Botswana.

Government has applauded Getbucks for finding innovative ways to penetrate the country's highly-competitive micro-finance market.

"Your Fincould system, which enables your customers to transact online to get short term loans, is indeed a game-changer," said Mogomotsi Kaboyamodimo, deputy permanent secretary in the office of the president.
