37 African countries to get new Apple iOS 6 maps
From South Africa to the Seychelles, 37 African nations are to get tech firm Apple's new mapping services as part of the company's iPhone iOS 6 roll out on Wednesday 19 September. But no African country is to get iTunes as part of the new software offerings.
Apple is dropping Google maps for its own mapping service. And countries such as Angola, Egypt, Swaziland and Zimbabwe are to get the new standard Apple mapping offering for iOS 6.
The tech giant is also planning to offer satellite mapping, as well as directions, turn-by-turn navigation and traffic reports for many African nations such as South Africa.
But all African countries, including the continent's economic giant South Africa, are still not on the list of nations that have iTunes or Games on the App Store for iOS6.
It is unclear as to whether nations such as SA could get iTunes this year, as experts say Apple does not publish lists of countries that are still to get the offering.
The full list of countries that have Apple software services for iOS 6 is available here, while below is a summarised list of African countries to get the standard map features.
