Orange launches new radio app in SA
Mobile telecoms company Orange has unveiled a new radio application for customers in South Africa.
The French operator has launched the Orange Radio app as part of its plans to expand business interest in South Africa.
A statement from Orange reveals that the new app is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and provides users with free access to over 20,000 radio stations and shows.
The radio catalogue also features more than 5,000 podcasts sorted by continent, country and genres.
App users can search for their favourite radio stations and shows, and even search for- and download their favourite tracks, the statement reads.
Orange Horizons chief executive officer, Sebastien Crozier stated that it is important for players in the online and telecoms space to stay abreast of the latest trends in consumer consumption and ensure they are able to provide content along these lines.
“From our research into the emerging trends in this regard, the idea for the Orange Radio application was born,” he said.
“Orange is excited about the launch of the application in South Africa, as Africa is a key market for Orange in terms of the development and growth of our brand. The aim is to include as many high-quality, local radio stations as possible,” said Crozier.
Speaking to ITWeb Africa last week Crozier also said his company plans to launch a light franchise model for independent businesses in South Africa.
According to Crozier with the shutdown of Nashua Mobile stores, there is potential in the market.
He explained that there was demand from independent players interested in being in a franchise where Orange can provide help to manage their stores.
