Clickatell guns for Nigerian PINless airtime dominance

United States headquartered mobile communications company Clickatell has said it is positioning itself to becoming the biggest PINless prepaid provider in Nigeria.

PINless Airtime enables real time top ups of prepaid mobile airtime at points of sale (PoS) without the need for PINs or printed vouchers. The benefits to end-users and resellers include not having to stock prepaid card inventory, no risk of losing PINs or cards, reduced risk of fraud and the ability to top-up any mobile number.

And Clickatell says five of the top Nigerian banks have opted for the company as their PINless airtime distributor.

Officials added that Clickatell plans to continue to strengthen its position as a leading mobile enablement provider in Nigeria and be the largest PINless airtime provider by the end of the fiscal year.

“GT Bank, First Bank, Ecobank, Sterling Bank, and United Bank of Africa are all switching their airtime strategies to a PINless future and have harnessed Clickatell’s technology, expertise and in-depth understanding of the African landscape to tap into the revenue potential of value added services (PINless Prepaid Airtime),” said Samson Isa, Clickatell director for West Africa in a statement.

Clickatell was founded in 2000 in South Africa but is now headquartered in Redwood City, California. It has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria.
