Telecom Egypt has committed to provide the Kafr El-Sheikh governorate or administrative division with connectivity, including ADSL, high-speed internet and WiFi, as well as customer service centre and data centre services, and video conferencing.

A statement issued by Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MICT) explains that the services will be provided to public offices.

The Ministry says the agreement falls within Telecom Egypt's plan to transform from a telecommunications company into an integrated communications operator, as well as to improve the efficiency of infrastructure at government level.

"Work is underway to develop and modernise the networks in 103 main and sub-centrals in Kafr El Sheikh governorate serving 121 thousand subscribers, where 36% of the network is based on 199 multi-service access node (MSAN) cabins, and 49% of data customers in Kafr El-Sheikh receive their services through MSAN cabins."

The agreement with the Kafr El-Sheikh governorate comes nearly three weeks after TE revealed that it signed two agreements for National Roaming and International Voice Services with Etisalat Masr. The agreements cover the provision of TE's mobile business with 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services through national roaming over Etisalat's existing network.

Etisalat Masr will also provide International Voice Services through the international gates of TE.

Ahmed El Beheiry, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Egypt welcomed the two agreements.

"Signing the national roaming agreement is one of the most important steps in the final preparations for our entry to the mobile market. Agreements such as this one with Etisalat will accelerate the provision of mobile services expected by the company's customers and our investors; helping the company to cement its position in leading the Egyptian communications market."
