MainOne looking at Jan launch for Tier III data centre

Telecommunications services and network solution provider MainOne is believed to be almost ready to operate its Tier III Data Centre, touted as the largest in West Africa.

In an article by The Guardian headlined Nigeria: MainOne's N7.5 Billion Data Centre for Operation in January the Company's CEO Funke Opeke is said to have revealed this during a media facility tour of the site in Lagos.

The Centre is positioned over 3,500 square meters and facilitates 600 rack space storage capacity, and also incorporates up to 6MVA redundant power supplies and a 24/7 network operations centre.

Outlining the company's diversification strategy to move from a submarine cable operator to a data centre service and cloud computing services provider, Opeke said the Centre is targeted at various stakeholders within the telecommunications industry and other verticals, writes the Guardian.

The publication makes the point that multinationals to date have been compelled to host their sensitive, big data offshore as a result of their being no data centre of this calibre in Nigeria.
