Telecel launches mobile money Android app

Telecel Zimbabwe has launched an Android app for its Telecash mobile money service, days after Econet announced that its roaming application had gone live.

The Telecash mobile money offering now has over 600 000 users and the company said that in the past few months, transaction levels processed through the service had surged to $17 million.

Development of the app, which according to company officials has now gone live on Android's Google Play store, will help users get easy access to information about the service.

"We have developed a Telecash application which is now available. It provides information on bill payments and where to access agents," Obert Mandimika, communications manager for Telecel Zimbabwe.

Other options available on the Telecash Android app include access to mobile promotions run by the company as well as links for insurance and bill payments.

The move by Telecel to launch an Android app comes after Econet this week said in a texted message to subscribers that it had developed a roaming application.

The telco advised its subscribers to "get information on Econet international roaming," with the Econet Roaming App downloadable on the Google Play Store and the Apple store.
