ProFuturo, ATC partner to close digital divide in Nigeria
American Tower Corporation and ProFuturo have expanded their relationship to Nigeria, a crucial step in closing the educational digital divide among African youth.
The landmark digital inclusion coalition aims to improve the educational environment of 30,000 students across Africa and Latin America.
The collaboration, which began in Kenya earlier this year, has proven effective in using technology to boost educational performance.
The expansion into Nigeria is a significant milestone in their collaborative objective to provide quality digital education and innovative teaching practices to underprivileged communities.
American Tower, a global provider of digital communications infrastructure, and ProFuturo, a digital education initiative, are both dedicated to fostering digital communities.
The partnership seeks to enhance the educational experience by equipping both students and over 1,000 teachers with the tools necessary for effective digital learning.
Mneesha Nahata, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer of American Tower Corporation, emphasised the partnership's significance.
“We are deeply proud to strengthen our commitment to bring educational innovation through our Digital Communities program. This collaboration reflects our dedication to empowering thousands of students and teachers, ensuring they have the tools to transform their futures,” said Nahata.
Magdalena Brier, managing director of ProFuturo also stressed the importance of such alliances in promoting digital inclusion.
“Education with technology has enormous potential to help reduce the educational gap, bringing high-quality content to environments that often lack access,” she said.
Brier said the alliance is not only focused on improving student outcomes but also on fostering a robust international network of educators who can share knowledge and best practices.
She highlighted that the impact of the program is expected to extend beyond immediate educational benefits, creating a foundation for lasting change and progress.
According to Suzette Victor, director of sustainability for American Tower Corporation Africa, the partnership is vital for addressing the educational needs of underserved communities.
“Closing the digital divide is crucial to ensuring that no one is left behind. This expansion to Nigeria will lay the groundwork for a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed,” she stated.
