Intel has unveiled its first ever 2 in 1 Education device at the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Intel Solutions Summit 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark this week.

A first for Intel, the device has the mobility of a tablet and productivity of a laptop for learners in lower grades as well as those in higher grades, an official stated.

Speaking at a showcase event John Galvin, vice president of the sales and marketing group at Intel and general manager of Intel Education, said learning has been a focus of the company for the last 20 years.

“Two years ago we developed a new strategy and that was really one that was based on a very holistic set of solutions, where we could work with partners to deliver a localised solution within market,” he explained.

“We wanted to be able to have a device for education that gave the flexibility for them of having a tablet and full functionality of a notebook computer,” he said.

Galvin added, “We believe it all starts with a plan with a blueprint of how you bring technology into the school and when I talk about bringing technology into the school its not just about a computer lab, desktops in the back of a classroom but putting a device into the hands of every student.”

The tablet has a battery life of eight hours and additional three hours that is within the keyboard, and can withstand a 77 metre drop test on concrete - Galvin noted.

Intel revealed it is already processing orders for customers in markets like Russia, Portugal, Australia as well as the US.

However, a launch date and availability of the device for Intel partners in the Middle East and Africa market was not revealed.

The EMEA Intel Solutions Summit 2014 has been organised to inform Intel partners about the latest channel offerings and products, and explore the impact of new technologies on the customer experience.
