Airtel Zambia aims for 500,000 mobile money transactions

Airtel Zambia plans to reach half-a-million transactions from its 1.2 million subscribers registered on its mobile money service by the end of this year.

The company’s managing director Charity Lumpa said out of the 1.2 million registered mobile money subscribers, approximately 14, 000 to 15, 000 are currently regular users of its mobile money services.

The company also says that over 80 active Airtel money merchants have been registered.

Lumpa added that Airtel money is helping registered customers to pay utility bills and send money to friends and relatives in the comfort of their homes.

“We have targeted to reach half-a- million transactions of our 1.2 million subscribers registered on Airtel money service by the end of this year,” Lumpa said.

Lumpa said last week that the company is recording at least $95,000 worth of transactions every day through the Airtel mobile money service.

Airtel is Zambia’s largest telecom operator with over four million subscribers.
