Airtel to build 200 towers in rural Zambia

Airtel plans to put up 200 towers in rural areas across Zambia before the end of this year, according to a representative of the telco.

Airtel managing director Fayaz King said that his company has partnered with the Zambia Information Communication Technology Authority(ZCTA) as part of a universal access project.

"We are targeting to put up at least 200 towers in rural areas across the country," the Times of Zambia quoted him as saying.

Mr King further reportedly said that the project would also help in reducing investment costs, as other telcos could share the network facilities.

He also stressed that the move is part of Airtel’s strategy of expanding its network.

"Information and communications technologies have significantly transformed the lives of the users, we shall continue to work towards improving the lives of the people in all areas of the country," Mr. King said.
