Thousands of people moving through the South-Sudan-Uganda border post now have access to a MTN customer service centre in the area.

On Friday, mobile operator MTN opened the centre in the South Sudan town of Nimule, according to a Sudan Tribune report.

The report says that Nimule, until now, has ‘lacked’ a major telecoms service centre.

The opening of the facility also means that travellers through the area do not need to travel as far as over 150km to buy telecom services in South Sudan capital Juba.

MTN has operations in both Uganda and South Sudan.

"The centre will ensure vendors don’t have to travel all the way to Juba to purchase airtime scratch cards, rectify problems," an MTN statement reads.

Services that the centre is set to provide include the sale of SIM cards, mobile internet connections and reactivation of blocked numbers, according to the Sudan Tribune report.
