Pan-East African datacentre operator wingu.africa has established what it described as Ethiopia’s first-ever Carrier-Neutral Hyperscale Datacentre Park, located in the ICT Park, Addis Ababa.

In a statement released to the media, wingu.africa - which developed and owns and operates the Djibouti Data Centre - said the Addis Ababa facility, along with a second planned facility in Adama, will complement the Group’s offering to Ethiopia.

The new facility is located at the Addis ICT Park on 15,000sqm of land. The company is focused on supply to businesses requiring secure and fortified server hosting for their critical services and operators wishing to have autonomy through secure “white space” or their own separate modules on site.

“…while benefiting from wingu.africa's extensive experience and vibrant commercial ecosystem within the Data Centre Park and across its multiple facilities. Datacentres are key to providing fast, affordable internet, allowing all customers to enjoy the access and power of the internet for their business, social and personal needs,” the company added.

wingu.africa's co-founder and CEO Anthony Voscarides said: "We are delighted to be part of Ethiopia's ICT development with our new Hyperscale Data Centres. Our commitment to Ethiopia is to provide a safe, secure and stable platform for the many talented Ethiopians, including young entrepreneurs with vision and ambition. wingu.africa is also committed to developing the sector and contributing to the country with incentives and social programs.”

“Ethiopia represents a natural extension of our group’s other facilities, and we are delighted to be the first to break ground with a plan to launch commercial service later this year.”

wingu.africa acknowledged the support of the Ethiopian Investment Commission and its investment is a strong show of support for the country’s economic development and enabling of the critical ICT sector.
