Orange hastens digital inclusion drive in Botswana

Orange Botswana is rolling out a schools digital programme aimed at closing the digital divide gap in the country.

The mobile operator says it is concerned about digital divide in society, hence the need to accelerate connectivity projects.

Through the Orange Foundation, the company is providing a ‘digital schools kit’ which consist of 50 tablets loaded with local syllabus content, one video projector, one HDMI cable, one raspberry server, one set JBL speakers and one laptop

65 primary schools have so far receive donations as part of Orange’s nationwide initiative and the company plans to expand the project to include secondary schools.

Orange Botswana is aiming to support 100 public primary schools by the end of this year.

“This can lead to better information retention and improved academic performance. Access to ICT equipment can furthermore help teachers provide a more effective and efficient learning experience for their students.

“The digital kit serves to strengthen the ongoing teaching curriculum and provide supplementary content such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, literature, video-based classes, revision sheets and maps,” said Orange Botswana’s director of corporate affairs and chief compliance officer, Lepata Mafa.
