African startup bus to make pitstop at AfricaCom

AMPION's startup venture bus is expected to arrive in Cape Town, South Africa this November just in time for the AfricaCom conference.

AfricaCom is the continent's annual tech event that brings together 100 of the most influential names in Africa's telecoms, media and information and communications technology industry.

The AMPION Venture Bus, which is planned to be launched next month, is a spin-off to last year’s African StartupBus initiative. It is set to travel across 16 African countries this year.

The 5 day Venture Bus road trip brings together African tech experts to turn business ideas into real projects, create startups and develop innovative solutions to local challenges.

And in a statement AMPION said that the ‘Ampioneers’ will pitch their startups at AfricaCom to an audience of over 9,000 decision makers, and 350 key speakers from more than 140 countries.

Julie Rey, programme director at AfricaCom, noted that the partnership with AMPION Venture Bus will be a boost to the local entrepreneurial scene.

“The AfricaCom team is pleased to partner with AMPION for this year’s event. AMPION’s participation enables us to expand our reach to even more local entrepreneurs and to showcase their innovation to our high-level audience,” said Rey.

Since the launch of the first African startup bus initiative last year, three startups have launched operations namely Sterio.me, a learning system via SMS, Workforce, a platform bringing together job seekers and potential employers, and Bribed, an app to tackle corruption.
