Nedbank prepares to launch its Windows 8 app

South African bank Nedbank plans for its app suite to be soon be available in Windows 8 devices.

The firm’s banking app for Android, BlackBerry and other devices was first launched to Nedbank staff in August, prior to being unveiled to its customers.

It provides six core functions to both Nedbank and non-Nedbank clients at no charge, enabling clients to customise their dashboard in line with their individual financial interests and requirements.

These are net worth calculation, spend analysis, budgeting, saving for a goal, alerts and calendar view.

“The app has been well-received since it was launched for Android, Blackberry and other devices. It will be available pretty soon to Windows 8 devices,” Mike Brown, Nedbank chief executive officer, said at the financial firm’s year-end faction in Johannesburg last night.

Brown was encouraged by the uptake of the banking app, which he said was the most secure in the country.

“There have been 100 000 subscribers in the last six weeks. We have pushed really hard in the mobile environment and built the best mobile banking service.

"The fact that we have had no phishing issues since the app was set up is testament of the security of the app,” Brown said.

The Nedbank App Suite is the latest in a list of digital innovations built around ‘Approve-it’, an online security offering currently available in South Africa.
