Eutelsat Communications and Intersat have signed a multi-annual capacity agreement to provide hundreds of Mbps to meet the connectivity needs in Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Senegal.

Under the agreement, which represents the total available capacity over these countries, Intersat will use the coverage and reach of Eutelsat Konnect to provide a robust internet service to customers in underserved areas, located beyond the limits of terrestrial infrastructure.

Since its launch in 2020, Eutelsat Konnect has expanded its market across Africa and was selected by Facebook in May 2021 to offer broadband connectivity via WiFi in several African countries including DRC, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Aminata Sanyang, general manager of Intersat said: “Intersat’s ambition is to stay at the forefront of technology by investing in ultra-modern services that make our commercial offering ever richer and faster. We are delighted to integrate Eutelsat's most advanced inbound resources into our portfolio of solutions to come to deliver our powerful, fast and high quality internet services to an ever growing number of customers.”

Nicholas Baravalle, Eutelsat’s regional director for Sub-Saharan Africa added: “We are delighted to sign this long-term agreement with Intersat that will enable high-value-added connection services for communities, businesses and individuals facing the digital divide. This agreement underlines the important needs for the African continent as well as the unbalanced advantages of the Eutelsat Konnect satellite which will enable them to be fully met. This contract also emphasises the relevance of Eutelsat’s multichannel distribution strategy.”
