MTN appoints new mobile financial services head

Telecoms group MTN has announced the appointment of a new head of mobile financial services, Sérigne Dioum, from 1 September 2013.

According to a statement from the telco, Dioum will be responsible for driving MTN Mobile Money and related mobile financial services products and services across the MTN footprint.

“Mobile financial services are crucial to us living our vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers. Furthermore, the continued growth and innovation of our MTN mobile money service is at the heart of our digital strategy,” says Pieter Verkade, MTN group chief commercial officer.

“Dioum is a seasoned professional. We have the utmost confidence in his ability to drive growth and innovation to the benefit of our customers in this important financial services segment of our business,” he adds.

His work experience spans more than 14 years in the telecoms industry with a qualification in telecommunications engineering from French institution, ENST Bretagne.

He has been the CMO of MTN Cote d’Ivoire since 2009, and during this time, also acted as general manager of MTN Mobile Money for the West and Central Africa region.

In his new role, Dioum is expected to handle tasks such as product and partner management of MTN Mobile Money. With his team he is expected to also handle demand and product management of International Airtime (IAT).
