Airtel Kenya unveils 3G service
Business Daily Africa reports.
Rollout of the technology means Airtel`s subscribers can now access video-conferencing and videophone services that they could not get from the 2.5G, a lower version network that the telecoms firm has been using.
The service, which is supported by a 3.75G network, will allow customers to access Internet speeds of 21Mbps, Daily Nation states.
The service has been rolled out in five areas in Kenya – Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, North Coast and Eldoret, and will be available in other regions in the next nine to 12 months.
The network is provided in partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson, African Business Review says.
Dimitri Diliani, head of Africa, Nokia Siemens Networks, says: “Kenya is an emerging market and subscribers all over the country are increasingly demanding better network quality and superior services. We have partnered with Bharti Airtel to deliver the right infrastructure and solutions to help them meet these demands.”
