According to the Sudan Tribune newspaper the East African country's minister of science and telecommunications, Tahani Abdullah said that telecoms companies would launch 4G services in the coming three months in the country.

The newspaper further reports that the minister did not provide additional information on the coverage or whether the service would be provided by all carriers.

It was also reported that a 4G network would provide comprehensive and secure solutions for voice, data and multimedia streaming services to users and much higher speed than is currently available.

"The entire Sudan will be covered by the internet and computer services through e-government and other services. The telecommunications sector will contribute to the national income by 10%," Sudan Tribune quoted Abdullah.

"Sudan will turn into a smart world," she added.

When Sudan launches its 4G network service it will join other African countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda.

According to research firm BuddeComm Sudan's estimated internet penetration at the end of 2014 was 26%, while the mobile penetration stood at 71%.
