Containing the Malware Plague - Remote Browser Isolation Solution Protects Endpoints from Browser-Borne Threats

Ericom Shield for Secure Browsing Defends Users and Businesses Against Ransomware and Other Malware Attacks

Ericom Software, a leading global provider of solutions for securely connecting the unified workspace, today announced the release of Ericom Shield™, the second generation of its secure browsing solution. Ericom Shield dramatically bolsters organizational defense-in-depth with remote browser isolation that blocks the most prevalent threat vector for ransomware, zero-day attacks, drive-by downloads and other malicious content.

Faced with what Gartner has referred to as the "Internet cesspool", companies achieve some degree of protection by layering multiple security solutions, such as anti-virus and secure web gateways. However, most security solutions on the market today are largely reactive, leaving businesses vulnerable to ransomware, zero-day attacks and other forms of web-borne malware. With the security market ripe for solutions that proactively protect against both new and existing malware, Browser Isolation has emerged as a new layer that provides significant additional protection on top of the existing counter measures. Widely considered the most promising technology for eliminating web attacks through endpoints, Ericom's Remote Browser Isolation is a clientless, centrally managed solution that requires minimal IT overhead and improves end user productivity.

"Businesses simply cannot afford to limit employee web use for research, operations and myriad other business applications. However, in recent years, despite the near universal adoption of anti-virus and web gateway solutions, browser- and email-borne attacks have grown to represent 80% of malicious activity, costing companies dearly in downtime, credibility, recovery efforts and ransom payouts," said Joshua Behar, Ericom Software CEO. "Ericom is proud to launch our second-generation secure browsing solution, at a time when the dominant approach still heavily relies on patches and anti-virus updates."

Building on Ericom's deep expertise in virtualization and HTML5 browsing technologies, Ericom Shield executes all web content in a remote "sandboxed" environment – inside a disposable Linux container. The solution ensures a smooth and seamless browsing experience from any standard browser, regardless of the underlying hardware or OS. Moreover, corporate networks are effectively protected from browser-borne threats and malware attacks, as no web content is executed on user devices. Instead, web content from each session or browser tab is executed in its own dedicated container, preventing malicious code from persisting as well as leakage of sensitive data between sessions (e.g., cross-site scripting). This results in a safe content stream delivered to the user's local browser in real time, providing a native, interactive and threat-free browsing experience.

Lastly, browsing activity very often involves content download requests. With Ericom Shield, downloaded files are scanned and cleansed using a pre-integrated, best-of-breed Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR) process, before being released to the user device, providing a comprehensive, well-rounded, productivity-enhancing solution for secure browsing.
