WorldRemit appoints new mobile money analyst

Online mobile money transfer service WorldRemit has appointed Alix Murphy, a former GSMA Market Intelligence analyst, as its senior mobile money analyst.

While with GSMA, Murphy analysed trends in mobile money and digital identity and consulted mobile operators on revenue opportunities.

And at WorldRemit, Murphy is expected to help build and support commercial relationships with telecom operators all over the world as well as maximise mobile money opportunities for the company.

WorldRemit is an online service that lets people in 50 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and Americas send and receive money through phone, computers and tablets. It currently enables 250,000 money transfers per month.

The company said in a statement that Murphy has built up-on –the-ground expertise of the telecom sector in regions as diverse as sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, North America, East Asia and South East Asia.

“I have seen first-hand how mobile money can improve lives, businesses and the whole economies, especially in the developing world. For billions of people around the world, mobile money will be their first and only means of accessing financial services. I’m happy to join WorldRemit and help accelerate the growth of remittances to mobile money," Murphy said.

Murphy has also spent years in international development including at the Grameen Foundation and Aga Khan Foundation.
