Vodacom Tanzania Plc has partnered with insurance firm Milvik to offer health insurance services from Jubilee Insurance and MO Assurance via the M-Pesa platform.

According to the operator, the health insurance bundles from these partners “will have easy accessibility and are available on Vodacom’s M-Pesa platform.”

The bundles are expected to streamline the process for health treatment in the country. The packages introduced include coverage for hospitalisation, personal accident, Life and a bundled product (Faraja Yangu) that provides crosscutting benefits.

“They will cover both adults and children and vary in price according to their ages and specific packages,” the companies stated.

Speaking during the launch, Epimack Mbeteni, Vodacom Tanzania M-Pesa Director said, “We are extremely happy today to be able to announce this important new development in our insurance offerings to Tanzanians. Vodacom Tanzania has placed great emphasis on health as a major driver for our purpose-led activities. Health care is a fundamental need for all Tanzanians and we believe it should be readily available for all, hence our partnership with Milvik, Jubilee and Mo assurance will help us unlock this”

These health insurance packages come following the positive reception of the motor vehicle insurance introduced early this year in partnership with ten insurance brokers.

Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) Legal and Complaints Manager Okoka Mgavilenzi said the government promotes use of technology in accessing and providing essential digital services including insurance.

“We commend Vodacom Tanzania for coming up with this innovation and taking a major step to add more insurance providers to VodaBima’s digital network which we believe will significantly increase access to and use of insurance service in the country, especially in the area of health, which you have launched today,” said Mgavilenzi.

Milvik Insurance Head of Sales Ismail Simanga added that the event was a huge milestone that will see family's health is well covered and protected by the best health insurance cover. “Your family’s health and safety means the world to you. We understand and want to help you protect your loved ones from situations beyond your control”.
