Vodacom Tanzania, Flickswitch launch a regional first

Vodacom Tanzania and South African mobile solution provider Flickswitch have announced the availability of Vodacom SIM Manager, a mobile connectivity management platform for companies looking to provide mobility and IOT services to their customers on the Vodacom Tanzania network.

The companies claim the service is the first of its kind in Tanzania.

Arjun Dhillon, Enterprise Business Unit Director at Vodacom Tanzania, said, "We firmly believe that the launch of this service will stimulate innovation and support for both SMEs and large corporates alike with the necessary business tools to address their mobile requirements. Our smart SIM Manager Service ensures that business SIMs are loaded with data as they need them. This reduces the costs of managing device SIM cards, whilst at the same time ensuring operational uptime."

According to the network operator, Africa's device connectivity and IOT market is perfectly positioned for rapid growth in several sectors, not only in traditional areas such as mobile workforces, fleet management and point of sale, but also in new areas such as advanced agriculture, utility metering and smart security.

In August 2019 Gartner released its 2019 ICT Hype Cycle and named IOT as one of the technologies expected to have a transformational impact on business in Africa within the next ten years and drive business spending.

Vodacom Tanzania believes the technology and the areas it is likely to influence all require tools to manage large numbers of SIM cards more effectively.

"Managing communication costs is an important factor in many industries and a key enabler for economic growth in these sectors. The new Vodacom service creates an innovative mobile eco-system that gives businesses in Tanzania with large scale communication needs access to self-help online SIM management tools. Customers can now self-provision mobile numbers and build their own monthly packages by setting up smart Top-Up rules."

Kees Snijders, Managing Director of Flickswitch Group, said the company's SIM control platform is used by over 2 000 enterprises across ten African countries and "generates close to US$7-million in revenue for our telco partners annually."

Snijders added, "We are delighted to continue the expansion of our enterprise self-service platform in partnership with Vodacom."
