Botswana's RPC Data gets KenolKobi's business flowing

Botswana based ICT company RPC Data has secured a contract with Kenyan oil firm KenolKobil to re-engineer its core business processes using Oracle Enterprise Business Suite R12.

"KenolKobil was using a legacy version of Oracle EBS with significant customisations coupled with a lack of integration with subsidiaries, thereby severely hampering their ability to adapt to changing business requirements efficiently," said Davison Charamba, RPC Data's finance manager, adding that the project covered functional areas which include supply chain, financials, human resource management and payroll.

According to RPC data, the new application consists of a collection of enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and supply-chain management (SCM), arranged to drive the conglomerate's expansive investment portfolio spanning the entire Eastern, Central and Southern parts of the African continent.

RPC Data has already finished implementing the new system at KenoKobil head office in Kenya.

Charamba said the modules implemented included Oracle purchasing, advanced pricing, order management, inventory, human resources management, employee self-service, payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivables and fixed assets.

He added that the project called for the development of custom extensions including lease management and sliding scale.

"The project was an opportunity to consolidate several customised systems to use Oracle EBS R12 standard functionality significantly de-risking future upgrades."

RPC Data is also expected to rollout the project across KenolKobil subsidiaries located in Burundi, Zambia, and Uganda, and integrate processes across the subsidiaries and remove any barriers to information flow.

"The key operational benefits include, but not limited to, automation, transparency and integration, which will enable KenolKobil to improve visibility into the financial and operational activities at the group level, reduce operational costs, increase transparency to shareholders, and realise returns on their IT investments in Oracle technologies," Charamba said.
