Access Kenya becomes Internet Solutions after DiData buyout

Kenyan provider of internet services, Access Kenya has officially re-branded to Internet Solutions Kenya (IS-Kenya), according to local reports.

The move comes after the company was bought out by Dimension Data in 2014. After the acquisition, Access Kenya has co-existed with IS-Kenya, a fully owned subsidiary of Dimension Data.

At the re-branding event hosted in Kenya recently, CIO East Africa quoted IS-Kenya MD Richard Hechle as saying: "This re-brand is a culmination of the merger of both businesses and their transformation.

"Access Kenya was always known as a connectivity business while Internet Solutions is a pan-African ICT solutions company; so after years of merging the cultures and transforming the business it was time for a proper reintroduction."

Hechle told StandardDigital, "We are officially adopting the new Internet Solutions (IS-Kenya) brand on February 1, 2018. The decision to use the IS name and logo was purely driven by its brand equity across Africa and globally.

"Upon acquisition, the new business was looking at a stronger African presence and expertise that Internet Solutions had built over 21 years. It, therefore, made sense to leverage this equity and adopt the IS brand."

In 2014 when Dimension Data also opened its offices in Ghana, the company said it was planning to expand to further geographies.

In July last year, Internet Solutions announced that it had deployed the company's first Point of Presence (PoP) in Madagascar. "Further expanding their African footprint, Internet Solutions has also commissioned a second PoP in Zambia," noted a statement from the company.

The company said it has 68 PoPs in 16 African markets, with operating offices in South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria, as well as international PoPs.

It added, "Co-locating with Airtel Madagascar and NetOne in Zambia, Internet Solutions' PoPs provide clients with access to local Internet networks in each country without the need to identify and contract with local Internet service providers (ISPs).

"The resulting benefits of network redundancy and streamlined provision of service is particularly attractive to global carriers and multinational companies that manage complex networks intersecting several African markets."
