The migration to the cloud and what really happens once you get there

What’s next in the evolution of technology as we go beyond the cloud and beyond the horizon

The benefits of cloud-based solutions are now glaringly obvious to many firms in dealing with this pandemic. Many leading-edge users have now almost completely migrated to the cloud, and some were, in fact born there as cloud native enterprises. Nevertheless, this is not the end of the evolution as technology continues to evolve at an even faster rate.

This is according to Professor Herman Singh, CEO of Future Advisory and adjunct professor at the UCT Graduate School of Business. He will be addressing a Nutanix Connect Series webinar next week; on the challenges of this new age and what strategic and operational advantages it presents for the next generation of leaders.

Prof Herman Singh will be joined by the local Nutanix team, peers and guest panellist, Martin Sanne, Executive for Manufacturing at CSIR and Ambassador for the World Manufacturing Forum, specialising in 4 IR. They will discuss trends in the market they have encountered, what clients are attempting to achieve now, the challenges this presents and the new advantages that come alongside completing this migration.

Never mind post-COVID, the question that begs to be asked is, ‘what will post cloud look like?’ We’re seeing the rate of change is happening so rapidly that the question of ‘in five years’ is not one that is relevant anymore.

“Many are under the illusion that the migration to the cloud is the destination on their company’s IT transformation journey, and it is easy to understand why that is so. However, the competitive advantage gained from this transition is changing for various firms as their business and external environment changes too. Advice and best practices will be shared in the webinar session, and your questions will also be answered,” says Singh.

What can the audience expect from joining?

“The race to the cloud is now in full steam, with the multi-cloud emerging as the most logical and business relevant version that match a CIOs business need,” says Paul Ruinaard, regional sales director at Nutanix Sub-Saharan Africa. “But it is massively complex and made up of a lot of moving parts. As an industry we need to have some frank discussion about what this migration entails and what the real challenges of the multi-cloud are.”

The next webinar in the Nutanix Connect series will be hosted on Wednesday, 16 September at 13:00pm, entitled: ‘Horizon busting – What will the post cloud world look like?’ Click here for more information and to register for this event.
