Cassava, Liquid roll out Wi-Fi Finder to broaden Africa’s hotspot value

Cassava Fintech International and the Liquid Telecom Group have announced the launch of Sasai Wi-Fi Finder - aimed at accelerating digital and financial inclusion in Africa.

The Wi-Fi Finder is a collaboration between ISPs, broadband connectivity services providers and local internet hubs to enable users to identify hotspots offering affordable data.

Cassava chief executive, Darlington Mandivenga said, “We see this launch as a critical piece in the social digital inclusion agenda we are driving on the continent.”

He added that the service will be accessed through an intuitive and easy -to -use application feature on the Sasai Super application.

“A smart user can have an easy access and connectivity on the go through accessing the Sasai Wi-Fi Finder network to download application and gain to a wide range of in-application service.”

Mandivenga added: “In the application, you can choose to show Wi-Fi hotspots up to a distance of 2km and new users will actually be greeted by Wi-Fi hotspots nearby. Users will also receive additional services such as distinct indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi hotspot markers, directions to Wi-Fi hotspots, session usage, range and signal strength details.”

The Sasai WiFi Finder will allow greater connectivity in a number of locations, Mandivenga said, among them: retail, healthcare, education, government and small business trade facilities, as well as access to social, entertainment and on-demand services offered on the Sasai super application.

Liquid Telecom Group COO, Ahmad Mokhles said in addition to providing affordable Wi-Fi access, the collaboration will support local franchisees and partners to grow their businesses.

The partnership is expected to be rolled out in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa.
