OK Zim links branches through fibre

OK Zimbabwe, one of the leading retailers in the country, has now connected most of its branches through fibre optic links with plans to connect five more this year, chief executive officer, Willard Zireva said.

The giant retailer has a large geographical spread in the country and Zireva says it is necessary for the branches to be connected in order to effectively operate and run the real time business system.

“A high level of connectivity is essential to operate the real time business system. Accordingly, the number of branches on fibre optic links has been increased to forty four, with an additional five branches to be connected in the coming financial year,” he said.

He added that the branches that are not in areas with fibre optic lines had been connected via satellite.

The company is revamping connectivity to ensure uninterrupted processing in all its different branches.

And to counter unplanned power outages OK Zimbabwe has also installed uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units.

Zireva said although the company has plans to migrate to a new information management system, it has experienced some delays when it comes to achieving this.
