E-commerce provider Travelport expands to Somalia

Distributions services and e-commerce provider for the global travel industry Travelport has launched business operations in Somalia.

The move comes after US-headquartered Travelport has renewed investments in Egypt while launching operations in Kenya this year.

In a statement, Travelport says it has appointed regional travel operator Euro Africa Services as its distributor in the country.

According to the agreement, Euro Africa Services will have exclusive rights to distribute Travelport’s Galileo technology and services in Somalia, provide travel agencies in the region with access to global travel content as well as customer support and training.

Travelport says it is now present in 48 African countries, and that it has plans to introduce more African operations.

“The new operations in Somalia form a key part of our continuing Africa expansion strategy,” said Mark Meehan, managing director for Travelport Africa.

“Somalia has a major growth potential and we feel that this is the right time to make a significant investment in this region,” said Meehan.
